Tuberculosis of the spine can cause pain in the back which can be associated with fever , weight loss or loss of appetite. The fever mostly rises in the evening. In advanced stages , patients may complain of weakness in the extremities or deformity of the spine.

Transpedicular biopsy is the gold standard for diagnosis of Tuberculosis of spine. The sample collected is sent for histopathology, GeneXpert and culture. If the mycobacterium is detected , Anti-tubercular medication is started according to weight of the patient

TREATMENT
Treatment is primarily based on oral anti-tubercular medications. Surgery is only required if there is weakness of lower limbs, bowel bladder disturbance or deformity of the spine.
