Patients may complain of imbalance while walking, difficulty in eating food with hands, inability to button shirt or dropping objects from hand. Patient may also experience difficulty in passing urine. On examination, deep tendon reflexes are exaggerated and patient may show signs of myelopathic hand.
Diagnosis primarily depends on clinical examination and identification of signs of cervical myelopathy. MRI helps to identify the level and severity of canal stenosis.
As cervical myelopathy shows progressive detorioration over time , surgery should be done as early as possible to prevent unfortunate complications of cervical myelopathy. Surgery can either be done from the front or back of the neck.
